Gillman Flat Track Cup goes to Jaxon Rayner

Jaxon Rayner, better known in Speedway circles as the passenger for Sidecar riders Trent and Nate Headland, sprang a minor upset when he beat meeting favourite Kyle Machin in the Senior 500cc 2-stroke & Over 300cc 4-stroke class Flat Track Cup at Gillman Speedway on Saturday afternoon, 17 May.

19-year-old Machin is usually the star rider at Gillman and looked the likely winner again when he was unbeaten in the heats, but Rayner (pictured right), who only dropped a point to Machin in the heats, reversed the result in the 6-lap final, leading Machin home by 0.456 second.

17-year-old Speedway rider Harry Sadler, who also only dropped a point to Machin in the heats finished third, with Jesse Headland, Roy Stout and Kane Golding filling the other placings.

The final was billed as a 12-rider event, but an apparent change to the track licence meant it was changed to just six starters.

In the Junior Cup events, Blake Schlein was unbeaten in the 85cc 2-Stroke & 150cc 4-Stroke aged 9 to Under 13 class, taking the final ahead of Chase Maul-Dunn, Riley Stout, Jaxon Fraser and Cooper Walsh; and Maul-Dunn won the 65cc 2-Stroke aged 9 to Under 13 class final from Ryleigh McGregor, Schlein, Fraser, William Nicol and Curtis Sanders after Schlein was again unbeaten in the heats.
