British Sidecar riders arrive in Adelaide

Two British Sidecar riders who will appear at the opening meeting of the Gillman Speedway summer season on 9 November, arrived in Adelaide yesterday where they were met at the airport by leading South Australian riders Mick Headland and Mark Mitchell.

The riders are two of Great Britain’s leading Speedway and Grass Track Sidecar riders, Mick Cave and Mark Cossar.

Mick Cave has been one of the top sidecar riders for around 25 years, and has raced all over Europe and also in Australia. He first started as a passenger and then took to the handlebars, and hasn’t looked back since. He has been one of the innovating riders of the sport who is always trying new ideas on the bikes to get the edge on fellow competitors. For the trip to Australia he will be using the latest Yamaha R1 engine, and have Ben Goddard as his passenger. They are one of the top 5 crews in the UK.

27-year-old motorcycle mechanic Mark Cossar, has far less experience, having only started riding in 2005, after a season as a passenger in 2004, but has been one of the most successful riders in Britain in recent years, winning the British Grasstrack Masters four times, including 2013, and the British Speedway Sidecar Championship three times. In the 2012 British Masters Grasstrack title, Cossar became the first rider since the coveted event began in 1951 to go through the entire race card unbeaten.

The opening meeting will be sponsored by Eagle Fuels.
